LO 1 TEST REVISION

‘Imagine you are developing a new social media app. What costs would you need and how would this impact the project?’

Cost:

Who are you employing? And why is it going to cost you money?

Employing someone costs time and money.

Time: You need to interview and find people to work for you

Money: You need to pay them a salary

‘You have been offered a job as an apprentice for a magazine company.

If you need to sign a form giving the intellectual property rights of any pre0production documents that you have planned and produced, why do you need to sign this form?’

  1. To give the rights of anything you  produce/design to the company you’re working for

(this is so no other company ca take your designs that you made for that company)

2. So you can bind a contact with the person/company you are working for

3. Revenue streams = Money MADE by a business, NOT income

Revenue streams can include things like:

    • Pop up ads
    • Pop up banners
    • Sponsorship
    • Marketing

Example: If your making a documentary about children in a 3rd world country, What are some ethical issues you need to ensure:

  • Get a parent or guardian to sign a consent form to film them
  • Ensure their safety. So like water, food, breaks
  • You need to make sure they are payed fairly

Ethical issues / Ethics

  • Working with children (Certain working hours, not legal adults)
  • Representation
  • Discrimination

Regulatory Bodies (Legislation / Legal issues)

  • Copyright act (1998)
  • Intellectual property law
  • Defamation act
  • Human rights
  • Data protection

REMEMBER THE ‘LAW’ OR ‘ACT’ AT THE END

Design a pre-production document eg: wireframe

Make sure to REALLY detail your wireframes

  • Represent an image with an X in a box, but annotate what the image is supposed to depict
  • Annotate the heck out of your wireframes…. (like REALLY detailed. Like fonts, colour etc)

Time Constraints

  • Time of year (weather constraints maybe)
  • Meeting plans
  • Contingency plan
  • Amount of time you have equipment, locations or personnel

Personnel constraints

  • Consider the salary that each person require, some people only need £10 some may want £100
  • People can only work certain times in the day, and only for a specific amount of time (like 10 hours a day for maximum 2 months)
  • Skill set of each employee - you might want someone who can speak french, but they don’t, so you either have to find someone to teach them french, or hire someone else
  • Number of people (You need to fit them all in a venue and transport them around places)
  • Childcare - actors can have children that they need to take care of, so you need to hire someone to take care of their kids so they can work for longer
  • Health - if someone gets hurt, or have medical issues

LO 1 Test - Structuring responses

LO 1 command words

  • Create
  • Identify
  • Explain

Create

Draw or Design something - USE THE WHOLE SPACE THEY GIVE YOU

Always given 3 bullet points:

    • Content - Appropriate colour scheme. Are your ideas appropriate to the brief and the question? Is the content engaging?
    • Layout - Is it appropriate to the brief and the question? Do you understand the conventions of the required pre-production material
    • Fitness for purpose - Is is relevant to the industry? Is it appropriate for the target audience? (Justify your choices)

This could be anything from:

    • Wireframe
    • Visualisation diagram (sometimes known as concept art or mock up)
    • Sitemap (sometimes knows as the infrastructure)
    • Storyboard (we haven’t covered in enough detail yet)
    • Script (we haven’t covered in enough detail yet)
    • Mind-map (not taught yet)
    • Production schedule (not taught yet)

Example of key conventions for a homepage

  • About us
  • URL
  • Tabs
  • Contact us
  • Login or sign up
  • Images linking back the brief
  • Social media links

ALWAYS ANNOTATE YOUR WIREFRAMES AND DESIGNS

WHEN MAKING WIREFRAMES - ALWAYS PUT THE URL BOX AT THE TOP

Identify

Nice and easy

Identify = Write a point

You must make sure what you’re writing is appropriate to the question

For Example: Identify four client requirements that Active Apps must consider when planning and testing the MyDesign app

For this you need to write down four client requirements

Do you need to explain or expand?

Identify one act of legislation and one regulatory body that inapplicable to the creation of a new TV advert

For this you need to write down one act of legislation (LAW) and one regulatory body. Don’t just write random laws and regulatory bodies! Make sure they are appropriate to the question!

Explain

Explain questions require you to build on the identify question

Think of explaining as expanding your point

Usually, explain questions will be within an identify question

Example:

Identify one act of legislation that is applicable to the creation of a new mainstream Pop magazine and explain what impact it has.

  1. Identify = Human Rights Act. Explain = This relates to the stories reporters are allowed to write. They might be limited and must ensue the articles are within the publics interest.
  2. Identify = Data Protection Act. Explain = journalists must to contain personal details within articles, so that the person can’t be found.
  3. Identify = Defamation Act. Explain = So the journalists don’t breach any libel act, and harm anyones reputation.

BUT NOT ALWAYS! You must read the question.

Explain why you’ve been asked to do this?

  • 2 marks, make a short explanation
  • 6 marks, explain in more detail and if asked, explain more than one point
