The importance of good planning (Pre-production)

  • You want to catch the mistakes you have made earlier on in planning so that you don't need to make expensive fixes like hiring actors again after you have finished shooting
  • The budget is not infinite. You need to plan your budget
  • A call sheet - everyone knows where they need to be at what time and for what scene
  • Back up plans incase something goes wrong or not the way you intended it

Sector and planning - the impact

The type of PP document we use depends on the type of media sector the product is for

The importance of good planning/Pre-production

If you make mistakes because you haven’t planned effectively, it is costly and time consuming to put theses right later

Trying to back-track to do so, means missing your interim or final deadline

You make more effective use of your resources (physical and human) to plan ahead and have the right pre-production documentation - otherwise you waste time and resources

You ensure the safety of everyone on the project - hazard planning

Planning ahead in terms of legal and ethical considerations ensure a successful product that fulfils the client’s brief and enhances your reputation in the industry (rather than the opposite)
